Resource Room Teacher

Resource Room Teacher The Roeper School, a co-educational, independent school, serving gifted students in grades Pre-K through 12, seeks a part-time Resource Room Teacher for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. The job requires a candidate who is professional, personable, and organized who has experience with or is willing to learn about “twice exceptional” students and support them in time management, organization, and study skills. Job Description • Teach five sections of Resource Room class each school day • Manage, organize, and maintain an effective classroom environment with many moving parts • Maintain clerical work, including managing the content of the Resource Room files, ordering supplies, preparing written communications to staff regarding individual student performance, setting up accounts and launching students on respective software-based support tools (i.e. Learning Ally) • Coordinate with the Learning Support Specialist in the development of learning plans, behavior plans, success plans • Work one-on-one with students struggling to complete daily work • Attend daily lunch meetings to problem solve with colleagues on a wide range of student challenges and supports • Build a network of communication with each student, parents/guardians, homeroom teacher as needed to nurture academic success and independence • Complete progress updates and end-of-semester reports by the posted deadlines • Attend pertinent after school meetings: faculty meetings, department meetings, and student staffings • Design and order student planners for the next academic year • Assist special needs students and their parents/guardians with completing applications and preparing for SAT and ACT exams. Correspondence and communication with the SAT and ACT Boards may be required to ensure necessary preparations/modifications are made to accommodate the special needs of individual students Credentials • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field • Clerical experience and/or experience supporting students in a school setting • Fluency in basic math and algebra skills • Demonstrated writing proficiency Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with gifted learners and/or students with learning differences • Experience teaching or working with middle/upper school students • Experience in math and English instructional support • Knowledge in reading/interpreting psychology reports Apply Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to Robin Turner (robin.turner@roeper.org) by Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
