Position and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the LAS Executive Director and supervision of the LAS Director of Advocacy and the VOCA staff attorneys, the LAS VOCA Paralegal/Intake Specialist will provide support to the attorneys in their legal advocacy to help victims of crime in the areas of injunctive relief, consumer, and housing matters. The Paralegal/Intake Specialist will have primary responsibility for case files; will interview clients to gather information; investigate fact situations; gather evidence and witnesses; draft letters, memoranda, and pleadings; and perform legal research. In addition, the Paralegal/Intake Specialist will be expected to work effectively in a collaborative, shared decision-making environment; to be passionate about the law and advocacy for victims of crime; and to have the skill, creativity, and drive to provide clients with the highest possible level of legal services.
Prior Paralegal experience preferred. Candidates should have a degree in paralegal studies or related field and must be highly motivated and committed to the principle of equal justice; comfortable with technology including document assembly, websites and video conferencing; bi-lingual preferred. The ideal candidate is capable of acting with substantial degrees of independence and responsibility in this professional capacity.
