Come join the Parks Operations Section, a work unit with approximately 400 employees who maintain and provide programming to the entire King County Parks system. This role will be critical to ensuring that front-line staff have the correct tools to do their job while ensuring alignment with auditing, financial, and other policies and procedures. This role develops close relationships with internal Parks stakeholders as well as other County agencies. They must be comfortable providing expertise and recommendations on equipment or supply use, supply chain conditions, and purchasing options to experienced front-line staff, while resolving conflicts and maintaining positive working relationships.  
This position will implement policy and procedures and oversee Parks Operations Fleet, Equipment, and Inventory Management Program. It will also support operations with seasonal operations and programmatic purchasing needs and provide expertise on equipment and fleet needs. This position will supervise an Inventory Purchasing Specialist II and will work closely with other team members, other King County agencies, and equipment providers and servicers. This role may also participate in rotational “On Duty” scheduling shared by Parks Operations managers.

Job Duties

Core Work Duties: 

  • Oversee Parks Operations Fleet, Equipment, and Inventory Program including the supervision of an Inventory Purchasing Specialist II and stores location.
  • Manage all fixed and personal property, controllable asset, and fleet equipment records from planning and purchase through end-of-life disposal. This includes participation in inventory audits and investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures, policies, procurement and storage solutions, schedules, and execution plans for all aspects of fleet, equipment, controllable assets, and inventory control and tracking.
  • Serve as the Parks Operations Section liaison between Fleet Services and Operations front-line supervisors and the Parks Operations Manager and serve as the Division AVL coordinator.
  • Provide expertise to staff on equipment standards including conversion to electric vehicles and equipment and make recommendations or defend Operational equipment needs to Fleet.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.  
  • This position will report to the Sunset Maintenance Shop located at 13659 18th Ave S, Seatac, WA 98168, with occasional opportunity for telework.


Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum Qualifications: 

Demonstrated experience in the following areas: 

  • Managing a complex organization’s fleet, asset, or inventory program. 

  • Researching, evaluating and making recommendations for large or task specific equipment or supply purchases. 

  • Awareness and adherence to Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, including performing audits of assets and inventory. 

  • Procurement and contracting at local, state, or federal levels. 

  • Writing, revising, and training staff on policy and forms. 

  • OR Any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the classification. Candidates without all the noted qualifications are encouraged to apply. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with Oracle EBS or similar accounting system. 

  • Experience working with an asset management system or inventory dispersal system.
